Humanities Foundation and EAS Environmental are Partnering to Launch the ShelterNet Fire Relief Fund to Support Uninsured Renters in the Charleston Tri-County Area

Golf Tournament Benefit to be Held on March 31st.

Charleston, SC (February 13th, 2025) – Humanities Foundation is proud to announce its partnership with EAS Environmental to launch the ShelterNet Fire Relief Fund, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing immediate financial and logistical support to uninsured renters who have lost their homes and belongings due to fire.

This program, initially focusing on the Charleston Tri-County area, is designed to address the critical needs of low-income households by offering financial aid for temporary housing, essential household items, and other immediate needs. The initiative also provides long-term support through case management, counseling, and housing placement services, ensuring families have the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

“With the rising cost of living and the increasing number of disasters affecting our community, the ShelterNet Fire Relief Fund will provide a vital safety net for uninsured renters,” said Tracy Doran, Humanities Foundation. “This partnership underscores our commitment to supporting vulnerable families in times of crisis.”

The program will be piloted with initial funding from EAS Environmental, whose generous support will enable Humanities Foundation to deliver critical aid. Financial disbursements will be made directly to landlords, utility companies, and vendors, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and effectively. Local nonprofits, serving as ShelterNet Referral Organizations (SROs), will manage casework, counseling, and housing placement, expanding the program’s capacity to deliver life-changing services.

Key components of the program include:

●      Emergency Financial Assistance: One-time grants for temporary housing, groceries, and clothing.

●      Housing Placement Support: Assistance in securing temporary or permanent housing.

●      Basic Needs Replacement: Support for replacing essential items such as beds, kitchenware, and appliances.

●      Counseling and Case Management: Emotional and logistical support to navigate recovery.

“We are excited to partner with the Humanities Foundation to bring this program to life,” said Spencer Turner, VP of EAS Environmental. “Through this initiative, we aim to not only provide immediate relief but also help families regain stability and hope. We’ve seen first-hand the devastating impacts these disasters have on families (especially those with young children), and we’re incredibly grateful to be working with a true partner in the Humanities Foundation.”

The inaugural EAS Environmental Golf Classic to be held at the Daniel Island Club on March 31st, is a charity golf tournament organized to raise funds and awareness for the ShelterNet Fire Relief Fund program.
