Thirty-one years ago, Tracy Doran and her husband sought a way to give back to their local community in Charleston, South Carolina. They leveraged their family’s real estate investment experience to build an SRO property for the formerly homeless. This philanthropic effort launched the creation of Humanities Foundation, a nonprofit developer serving South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, and Virginia.

Tracy Doran serves as President of the organization, guiding its 2,500-unit affordable housing portfolio and robust service programs to support low-income households and the larger communities in which they live. At its core, Doran says the organization is driven by passion—from the commitment of its founders to the staff who dedicate themselves to the work every day. “Our work impacts a lot of individuals. It wouldn’t be possible without our talented staff,” Doran says.

It is very important to us is that our staff have that passion and  that it is reflected in the work they’re doing  through our resident services and in the surrounding community. We hope to maintain and promote that passion with the people who work with us.

Off the heels of its 30th anniversary last year, Humanities Foundation is forging ahead with new developments like the Archer School Apartments and looking forward to new and expanded partnerships that will allow them to have the greatest possible impact.
